26 miles on a Friday night

Well, it wasn't your average Friday night.  It did, however, move me from 105 miles done to 131!

I decided to get my training run in for the London 50k. The way the dates fell, I either had to run a 22 mile/26 mile run on either the weekend just gone, or the one coming up. To get the most out of my weekend, I ran it on the Friday night to get it out of the way.

I've got to be honest, it was kind of cool to get to mile 16, and bump into my parents and sister on their drive home.  The conversation went something like this
:
'We saw you three hours ago Paul.  How far are you running?'
'I'm running a marathon!'
It was a godsend, because they gave me a drink, and also I'd just ran the last three miles in the pitch-black dark.  (My backpack had run out of water so I was thirsty as heck).

The next time I bumped into real people was at the top of Parbold Hill, where I ran into the pub which used to be the Wiggin Tree to fill my water bottle.  The conversation went something like this:
'Mate, if I put this change in your tip jar, can I use your toilet?'
'Nah, just go for it.'
I filled up my bladder pack with water, which I soon regretted.  The water from their sink gave me stomach cramps for the next half a mile.

I finally got home at ten to midnight, making it a 6 hour 20 min run.  I'm not too disappointed with that.  It's 25 minutes slower than my New Years' Eve time, but it was well below freezing by the time I'd finished, I'd ran out of water, and hadn't really carbed up during the day to be prepared for it.  I definitely hit 'The Wall'.  The good thing is, I don't need to do a big run now before the London 50k on Sunday the 20th of February.

131 miles done, 869 to go!
